The historical festival Battle Libušín was founded in 1991. This year, we are organizing the 33rd edition of this event, which over its long history has become one of the most significant events of its genre, not only in our country but also abroad.
For this year, the festival is scheduled for April 18, 2026.
Battle Libušín is a fascinating phenomenon that organically combines the raw authenticity of the historical life of our ancestors with a grand scenic spectacle on a single field. It is a place where hundreds of warriors from all over Europe gather under the protection of the Přemyslid hillfort to show spectators that the Middle Ages were not just a grey era from textbooks, but a vibrant world of craftsmanship, knightly honor, and the uncompromising influence of medieval martial arts.
The uniqueness of the Libušín battle lies not only in the number of participants but primarily in the community and tradition that has grown here since 1991. Every spring, it transforms the valley below St. George's Hill into one large, living chronicle of Czech history under the open sky.
The venue and the date of the festival are not accidental. The hill under which Battle Libušín takes place is dedicated to St. George, the patron saint of knights, whose feast day is April 24th. Furthermore, St. George’s Hill near Libušín is connected to the very beginnings of Czech statehood, as it is archaeologically proven that a Přemyslid hillfort stood here in the 10th century AD. This is also why the equestrian seal of St. George, the patron of the Libušín battle, is the symbol of our historical festival.
The medieval camp of all participants is spread directly beneath this hill. The period marketplace is located along a historical merchant path, just as it was operated for centuries in the past.
During the festival, the historical camp can be visited by the whole family. You can learn about the ways of life and military camping across various medieval periods, see the warriors' equipment and period clothing, discover historical craftsmanship and culture, and last but not least, purchase original handcrafted products at the historical stalls.
The festival also features a rich accompanying program that is well worth your attention. You will soon learn about the main theme of this year's program through our informative articles, which will keep you updated on the preparations. Expect period stage performances, horses in action, traditional crafts, and live music. Visitors can also look forward to tournaments, activities for children, and demonstrations of medieval law and daily life. You can further enhance your journey into the past at our tavern, which offers a wide selection of food and beverages.
The traditional centerpiece and climax of the entire festival is the scenic medieval battle involving hundreds of combatants. We will demonstrate fighting styles and military tactics from all periods of the Middle Ages, complemented by pyrotechnic effects and stunt performances.
For this year, we are preparing a script based on three significant anniversaries of the Czech Middle Ages. Details regarding the historical themes and events that will come to life in the script remain a secret for now. We will publish more information later in the "News for Visitors" section.
The Battle Libušín festival offers both education and entertainment for the whole family.
We ask participants to begin their Registration and follow the information channel on our website under "News for Participants." All information, including scripts and camping instructions for this year, will be published there.
We look forward to all participants and spectators alike, and we believe we will all enjoy this year's battle once again.
I wish you an unforgettable cultural experience.
