The Libušín Battle Festival enters its 33rd year this year. Over three decades, it has evolved from a spontaneous gathering of a few history enthusiasts into an extensive festival, both in its content and the presence of notable figures. The Libušín Valley has hosted not only historians and swordsmen, but also ambassadors, descendants of royal families, top warriors from around the world, as well as many performers, wandering actors, and artists. As organizers, we believe it is essential to continue enhancing both the cultural and artistic dimensions of the festival to keep moving forward.
It is an honor and a commitment for us to continue this tradition and raise the bar each year alongside prominent figures of Czech culture.
When Swords Meet the Orchestra
This year’s edition is exceptional due to the further deepening of our unique collaboration. We are immensely honored that the musical identity of the Libušín Battle will once again be shaped by the most prominent contemporary Czech composer, Varhan Orchestrovič Bauer.
While two years ago we began with basic motifs performed by Varhan and his symphony orchestra, for 2026, the musical component has grown into a complex dramaturgy. This year’s battle scenario will be accompanied by new, fully developed thematic movements composed by Varhan specifically for the story unfolding on the battlefield.
"Working with Varhan is a constant inspiration for us. His ability to instill timeless depth and emotion into historical turmoil is truly unique." — Josef František Král
Who is Varhan Orchestrovič Bauer?
For those not yet familiar with his work:
Two-time winner of the award for the most performed Czech author abroad.
Composer for the feature film Goya's Ghosts, directed by Academy Award winner Miloš Forman.
A visionary who conducts his own large-scale projects and whose musical range knows no bounds.
What to Look Forward to on Saturday, April 25, 2026?
